The Ready Stance Give Away Free MP3 ‘Disgruntled’

The Ready Stance are giving away a free download of ‘Disgruntled’ from their latest critically acclaimed album Damndest. The Ready Stance are lead vocalist and guitarist Chase Johnston, an Ohio native and alumni of the Athens, Georgia, music scene; guitarist Wes Pence, the creative force of 1990s outfit Middlemarch; drummer Eric Moreton, and old band mate of Pence’s and the wonderfully named bassist Randy Cheek. They interweave, tube-fueled guitars through melodic yarns with energy to spare. Poignant vocals and textured harmonies are their major motifs. See below for more info!

The album was recorded in the basement of Pence’s 1880s house and mixed at Audiogrotto, a newly converted church housing a world-class studio. The album’s 11 tracks—all set to sweeping, melody-rich hooks, raw, ringing guitars, and driving rhythms—are rooted in fact and stranger than fiction; literate, image-laden observations with a penchant for classic, bent Midwestern arcana. The Ready Stance’s time-honored sound is rare: just four guys in a room knocking out earnest, urgent rock, much as it could’ve been done in any decade.

Such timeless stuff has already drawn praise from some legendary names. “When I was a kid growing up in Kentucky,” recalls Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club drummer Chris Frantz, “my cousin would pick me up in his Chevy Super Sport and drive me down along the Ohio River to Cincinnati to hear some rock ’n’ roll. Those were exciting times, and the bands would play late into the night, rocking soaked in sweat. When I hear the Ready Stance, these memories come back to me and I remember that Cincinnati has produced so many wonderful musicians. The Ready Stance is among that number. You will be hearing a lot about them in the future.”

Black Stone Cherry - Like I Roll - Video/Chords/Lyrics
Black Stone Cherry - Like I Roll
I got my daddy’s car
And his old guitar
A suitcase full of broken hearts
Got my momma’s smile
And her baby blue eyes
I ain’t got much
But what I got’s mine
And I roll like I roll
I roll like I roll

I got an open road
And a restless soul
The Rolling Stones on the radio
And I roll like I roll
’Cause I roll like I roll

I roll like the hills under the California sun
Burn through the desert like a devil on the run
I’ll be flying high until the day that I die
No matter what they say
At the end of the day
I will roll like I roll

Well there’s a lot a people gonna try to bring you down
They got a lot of rules
They gonna try to put you out
I keep looking up in this world full of doubt
I roll like I roll

I roll like the hills under the California sun
Burn through the desert like a devil on the run
I’ll be flying high until the day that I die
No matter what they say
At the end of the day

I’m not gonna let it slip away
‘Cause I’d rather burn in hell
Than to let it fade

I got an open road
And a restless soul
The Rolling Stones on the radio
And I roll like I roll

I roll through the hills of my own Kentucky home
Back to the place where my heart belongs
I’ll be flying high until the day that I die
No matter what they say
At the end of the day
I did it my way!

Theory of a Deadman - Head Above Water - Video/Chords/Lyrics
Theory of a Deadman - Head Above Water
Did you ever picture life like this
No shooting star to grant your wish
Are you everything you hoped you’d be
Or caught somewhere in between
You dropped your nickel down a wishing well
And prayed for luck to cast its spell
To bring you closer to your dreams
That always seem just out of reach

You pray to God the moment when
You feel the current pull you in
Try to keep your head above water
Has never been harder
Even when it feels hopeless
You’re gonna get through this
Head above water, gotta fight from going under
Even when it feels useless to wish
You’re gonna get through this

Have you ever felt like giving in
Tried for hours but just can’t win
Tell yourself you’re not good enough
The struggle alone is just too much
No one’s there to hear you scream
You gasp for air but cannot breathe
Did you ever think you’d see the day
When you’d watch your life get washed away

You pray to God the moment when
You feel the current pull you in
Try to keep your head above water
Has never been harder
Even when it feels hopeless
You’re gonna get through this
Head above water, gotta fight from going under
Even when it feels useless to wish
You’re gonna get through this

Did it ever hurt so bad
That the thought of feeling lost would never end
Well you will think again

Try to keep your head above water
Has never been harder
When it feels hopeless
You’re gonna get through this
Head above water, gotta fight from going under
Even when it feels useless to wish
You’re gonna get through this

Head above water, never been harder
Tryin’ to keep your head above water has never been harder
You’re gonna get through this
You’re gonna get through this

Joshua Ketchmark - Saving Grace - Video & Lyrics
Joshua Ketchmark - Saving Grace
Smokestacks on the skyline
Heaven turning into grey tide
Out past the city lights
Headed west toward 29

Taillights set ablaze to the morning light
paving the way to saving grace tonight

further in the distance
Paradise is selling tickets
Auctioning off innocence
For visions of velvet engines

I think back to nights on fondulac drive
Setting it straight and saving grace

Tonight It’s time
To run out the night
Face our mistakes
By the dashboard light
Well find a place
So are dreams can survive
Tonight ignites
Out between these lines
Take the right of way
To the exit sign
It’s not to late
For saving grace tonight

For saving grace.. Tonight
For saving grace.. Tonight

Taillights set ablaze to the morning light

Chorus

Lets leave it all behind
No time left for long goodbyes
Got to make it out alive

Rupert Stroud Is Artist Of The Week

Each week one artist will have their new track streamed all week on www.smokincharliebrown.com which you will beable to play via the interactive bar below as well as playing all their Youtube videos.

This week’s Artist Of The Week is Rupert Stroud .

Stroud started out playing the Yorkshire gig circuit as a solo acoustic artist penning his debut Rupert Road along the way. He was discovered by eminent British producer Will Jackson (The Kaiser Chiefs, Embrace, The Cribs, The Music) who adamantly brought Rupert into his studio to record. Stroud’s second album ‘Chasing The Night’, again with Will Jackson as producer, brought Stroud to wider acclaim securing a huge host of online support, national press features and well received slots amongst incredible line ups at Live at Leeds and Galtres Festival 2012.

Mick Bedford on drums and Mike Pearson on keys and guitar are now permanent fixtures in Rupert’s line-up. As the three evolved into a dynamic group, around the recording of ‘Chasing the Night’, Stroud was set apart from the usual singer/songwriter status quo. They are often joined on stage by songbird Kate Peters, primarily a jazz singer, who also sings backing vocals on ‘Chasing The Night’.

After two critically acclaimed albums, regular adulation and live appearances on BBC Introducing shows up and down the country and several exciting festival appearances, Rupert Stroud is now back with brand new single ‘Twisted Games’.

The leading track ‘Twisted Games’ has rich wall of sound from the offset. Skilfully intercut with intimately sombre bluesy verses, Stroud’s compelling vocals and signature inventive beat driven arrangements are on better display than ever. B-Side ‘No Peace of Mind’ is a softer yet just as enticing track following the bluesy themes of the single as a whole. The overall sound adds a bit of James Morrison to Stephen Fretwell, Richard Ashcroft to Ray LaMontagne and Mark Lanegan to Boo Hewerdine.

Canto – Ha Ha Ha – Review By Trevor Newbury

When you are in a band, there is a lot to be said for the chemistry in the group even before you get together for a jam. This is made slightly easier when you have a band of brothers.

Canto consists of three brothers all under the age of 20; Seamus Blackwell (Vocals, Guitar), Aidan Blackwell (Bass) and David Blackwell (Drums), and this debut album ‘HA HA HA' is 10 tracks of brothers exploring their musical tastes. Read the rest of the review below!

The first thing that greets you on their debut album is a 2 minute instrumental track that hints at what you are going to find in the the rest of the tracks. Its a mad mix of Hendrix style riffs, blues, a little bit of Led Zeppelin, and some good rock and roll if you stuck them all under the psychedelia of 1960’s “love not war" era.

They are pushing the envelope here in terms of bringing older musical styles into a more modern setting. The first 3 tracks are the most extreme and in my mind just don’t work but by the time you get to “The Pit” its all forgotten, and you get to the place they want you to be. Enjoying some mind altering riffs from the history of rock and roll.

The best track on the album has to be William Byrd and his Contemporaries. Nice easy blues, self mocking and a set of amazing lyrics.
